We produce high-quality, specialty foods sold to consumers through retail grocery outlets.
Chef Yu's brand of products are produced in Holland, Ohio by Li & Sara Yu. The
face appearing on the front of the labels is Li Yu's father Fu Hsi Yu and that's where the story begins. Mr. Fu Hsi Yu was born into an affluent family in China, back in 1931. At age 15, he was separated from his family due to a civil war in China. He took refuge in North Korea. Shortly after he settled in North Korea, the Koreans too exploded into a civil war between the North and the South. This war broke out soon after Korea regained control of their country from Japan. Mr. Fu Hsi Yu then made a choice to migrate to South Korea because he believed in Democracy over Communism.
Mr. Fu Hsi Yu has been an entrepreneur since the age of 18. He's owned a wide range of businesses over the years, the restaurant business being the first and most successful. Today, he has over 50 years of restaurant experience under his belt.
While in South Korea he met Mei Yun Chiang, who was a Korean-born Chinese woman whose parents were also from China. They started a family of 3 boys and 3 girls. Today, the Yu family consists of 30 members and is still growing. Mrs. Mei Yun Yu is most credited for raising their children and supporting her husband in his business endeavors. Today, they remain happily married after over 50 years.
The family immigrated to the United States in 1985. In 1989, the Yu family launched their first family ran business in the United States, Fu Yi Restaurant in Holland, Ohio. Proudly, Fu Yi was a great accomplishment for the family, being recognized for years as the number one Chinese restaurant in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan by "Zagat", "Where The Locals Eat", and the "Toledo Blade".
Beginning November 2005, Mr. Yu started the family's new project, Tea Tree Asian Bistro in Perrysburg, Ohio, which opened in November 2006. While Mr. Yu is still involved in the restaurant business as a chairman of the board, the physical part of the restaurant operation is now controlled solely by his two eldest sons Simon and Kevin Yu whom now each has over twenty years of experience.
In the meantime, the youngest son Li Yu wanted to make his father's scrumptious recipes available for every kitchen. Back in March 2005, while still working at Fu Yi Restaurant, Li Yu launched Three Brothers Foods Company LLC and began to build the business part-time. Needless to say since Mr. Yu and the three sons are all chefs, naming the brand "Chef Yu's" was a no brainer. In addition, Li Yu wanted to honor his father's hard-work and all the accomplishments his father has made over the years both in family and in business, Li Yu thought it was only appropriate to place his father's face on each and every product produced.
Li Yu, with the help and support of his wife Sara Yu (pregnant with their little boy Yu), along with his two beautiful daughters Chazlyn Yu, 14, and Jade Yu, 12, is currently pursuing the business full-time. His goal at this point in business is to have as many stores to carry his products as possible. He is currently working with a distributor on having Chef Yu's products made available in approximately two hundred stores throughout Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. He is also working on adding a few more specialty products into the Chef Yu's line.
